The South Plains Fair is officially open in Lubbock and that means lots of fun rides, great memories, and of course, lots of delicious food.

While most people go for the corn dogs, fried cheese, funnel cake, lemonade, and turkey legs, there are other great options that are less popular and just as delicious. Some of those hidden gems include corn in a cup, fried pies, cheesecake on a stick, and my personal favorite, the baklava.

If you’ve never tried baklava before you are seriously missing out. It is a layered pastry dessert made up of filo dough, chopped nuts, like pistachios or walnuts, seasoning, and a sugar or honey glaze. It is a sweet, buttery, flaky, and very delicious desert that is typically found in Greek cuisine.

At the South Plains Fair, you can get baklava in a cup from the St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church, and it is delicious. The dessert is typically a bit messy to eat with all of the layers crumbling as you take a bite. However, the fact that it is served in a cup with a spoon makes it much easier to eat. Their baklava is especially great for the fall fair because it has a great mix of fall spices like cinnamon.

Their cart is white and blue and right next to the cheesecake on a stick, so I highly suggest grabbing a cup of baklava during your adventure this week. Although, beware that anyone with a nut allergy should avoid it.
