For more than 100 years, the South Plains Fair has served Lubbock with amazing rides, food and entertainment. This year the fair is adding something new to the mix.

When you come to the fair for any time between September 23rd and October 1st, not only is there a clear bag policy this year, but fairgoers 21 and older can also enjoy an adult beverage.

It will be beer from the Coors family, which includes Miller Lite, Coors Light, Yuengling, and Dos Equis. It'll be $5 a beer (16 ounces). They will also be serving up Twisted Teas, Truly, Topo Chico and some wine-based daiquiri drinks for folks who don't want beer.

Alcohol sales will end at 9 p.m. during the week and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. That's two hours before the fair closes.

You can find the beer trailers at the door court midway near the coliseum, and there will be two other beer trots around the outdoor stage and free entertainment.

The South Plains Fair says they're adding 6 more police officers per day due to the addition of alcohol sales to ensure a safe family environment. Beer can be consumed throughout the fairgrounds, but not past the gates. The Lubbock Police Department also told us they'll be increasing police presence near and at the fair to make sure everyone has a safe and fun time.

The fair says last year they say around 185,000 people, which was about a 9 percent increase over 2019.

Gates at the South Plains Fair will be open from Sunday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to midnight and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to midnight. The fair is located at 105 E Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. You can find out more details at the fair's official website or call them at (806) 763-2833.
