Today is the day everyone has been waiting for. Although Lubbock is not on the path of totality, we will still be able to get a pretty great view of the solar eclipse.

The eclipse will start in the Hub City at 12:18 p.m., reaching maximum coverage at 1:35 p.m. It will then slowly lose coverage until the eclipse completely ends at 2:55 p.m.

This is a rare occurrence that you don’t want to miss, but you have to use proper safety protection in order to view it.

Due to the damage caused by directly viewing the sun, you have to wear eclipse glasses with an ISO of 12312-2:2015. If you do not wear the proper glasses, you can, and likely will, burn your retina, causing severe damage to your eyes.

While this sounds scary, don’t fret.

There are still plenty of places you can snag a pair of eclipse glasses before it starts this afternoon. Keep in mind all of these locations only have them while supplies last, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Where to get eclipse glasses last-minute:

  • The Science Spectrum is having a viewing party at 2579 S. Loop 289 and are selling glasses for $2.99 a pair in their gift shop
  • H-E-B located at 4405 114th Street is selling eclipse glasses
  • Home Depot is selling eclipse glasses by the self-checkout register
  • United Supermarkets will sell eclipse glasses at all its stores retailing for $2
  • Sonic is still selling their Blackout Slush Float that comes with a pair of eclipse glasses for $3.99
