The City of Lubbock wants everyone to know that it's time to mow your grass or weeds where you used to have grass. Otherwise, you could see a hefty bill coming your way.
After seeing little to no rain all summer, Lubbock finally saw beneficial rain in August. The rain flooded our streets, but also led to green grass, growth of grass and flowers, and, of course, unsightly weeds.
Thursday evening, the City of Lubbock sent out a "friendly" reminder that tall weeds in yards can lead to a codes violation.
According to the City of Lubbock, the definition of ‘tall weeds’ is about 8 inches tall. From the City:
The more you know:
- Uncultivated vegetation over eight inches high is a violation of the nuisance weed ordinance.
- Property owners have to mow from the front curb of their property to the middle of their alley.
- The Codes Department sends out notices of violation to property owners listed on the tax records.
- Property owners have seven days to mow their property after being cited.
- If a property owner doesn’t mow their property, the Codes Department uses private contractors to mow those properties.
- If the Codes Department mows a property, the property owner will be charged for the cost of the mowing plus a $200 administration charge.
- If that charge goes unpaid, the property owner will have a lien placed on the property.
And did you know that that the City of Lubbock has a "Weeds Hotline"? You know, just in case your neighbor's yard looks horrible and you want to narc on them? It's true! Just call 806-775-2290 and turn them in.
It may not make your relationship better, but at least their yard will look better.
