3 Clear Signs Summer Is Ending in Amarillo
It's that time of year in Amarillo when the kids are settling into their school routines. Friday night football games are kicking off, and families and students flock to stadiums all over to cheer on their favorite football player. There is a faint scent of cold weather in the air, even though it's 90 degrees in the shade still, and the sun seems to set a little bit earlier every day.
How to Tell Summer Is Over in Amarillo
That right there is a sign that summer is officially over. Another sign is that we find ourselves upon the Labor Day weekend. As we know, that is the gap between summer and fall, but how do you really tell summer is over in Amarillo?
Here are the top three signs summer is officially over.
#3 Swimming Pools Close

#2 Splash Pads Close
Are Splash Pads Open for Labor Day?
Another sign that summer is over is that the city has turned off the splash pads. Once that is done, that means the summer has said goodbye. No more water shooting up from the ground to surprise splash you, or a bucket drops a lot of water on your head, stops filling, and dumps.

#1 Wonderland Park Closes
When Does Wonderland Park Close for the Season?
The number one sign that summer is officially over. Wonderland Park stops the rides, closes the gates, and says goodbye for another year. We are officially at that point of the year. Wonderland Park is open for four more days, and then it closes. The park will be open for its final days of the season, Friday, August 2,9 through Monday, September 1, 2025. Wonderland will be open 7 - 10 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1 - 10 pm, and 1 - 6 pm on Labor Day.
Then the summer officially ends in Amarillo.
