Could This Fast Food Institution Be Coming Back To Lubbock?
It's very tough for some businesses to make in Lubbock.
What Happened?
The last time this fast-food franchise in Lubbock opened there was a double line around the building. People just couldn't get enough of it and they couldn't get it quick enough. Then, for some reason, there was a dramatic falloff of business. I'm not 100% sure why folks gave up o them because I never had a problem with thier quality or service. It seems like they were all over town for a hot minute and before you knew it, they were gone.
So Who Is It?
I am talking about one of my personal favorites, Jack In The Box. There's something about Jack In The Box that just hits differently for me. I love the Jumbo Jack and I love those tacos that are not tacos but delicious anyways. Jack started serving up Smash burgers and Mega-Munchies boxes that sound pretty amazing too (mini-tacos, fries, stuffed jalapenos, and dips). Jack also makes some great breakfast sandwiches too.
Was It The Competition?
I want to say that the reason Taco Bueno couldn't make it in Lubbock is that everyone here loves Taco Villa, Rosa's, and Taco Bell so much. Is Wendy's, Whataburger, Sonic, and McDonald's just too much competition for Jack In The Box? It's not a bad assumption, but there are dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of Jack In The Box locations in Texas right alongside the aforementioned restaurants.
Will They Come Back?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jack In A Box has had two separate cracks at the Lubbock market. To get a foothold now would be super tough (I feel the same way about Carl's Junior). The smart money says it may be another five to ten years before people forget about Jack's previous failures before they give it another shot. Until that time, they will remain a hot road trip deour for some of us.
