The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals says that the conviction of Dr. Thomas Michael Dixon can stand.

Dixon was convicted of capital murder for the 2012 death of Dr. Joseph Sonnier of Lubbock. Prosecutors said that Dixon hired David Neal Shepard to carry out the murder. Shepard has since pleaded guilty and is serving life in prison.

Dixon claims that cell phone records used in court were obtained without a proper warrant, and that his right to a public trial was violated due to some people not being allowed inside the courtroom.

KAMC News reports that the appeals court decided in December 2018 to overturn his conviction.
