Will This Innovative Design Come to Texas Malls?
One of the sad things about the digital world is how much it has negatively impacted the physical world around us. One of the biggest examples of this is in the world of shopping.
Online shopping, especially with platforms like Amazon, took a large toll on physical stores. While roaming the mall to find everything you need in one space was once the best choice, it was eventually taken over by online retailers. This led to a loss of profit, and many malls across the U.S. have been forced to close.
We are all familiar with the mostly abandoned malls that are left with just a few shops keeping them afloat and completely abandoned malls that haven’t seen any signs of life in years. Unless these malls are repurposed in some way or demolished to make room for something new, they end up sitting there as a waste of space and resources.
Fortunately, there has been a solution put into practice to give these malls new life, and I think more places need to implement this.
The Grand Avenue Mall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was once a bustling mall full of shoppers. Eventually, the shops left, and the mall was empty. So, investors purchased the building, and it went under renovation to be used as apartments.
It is now known as The Avenue and while some of the old retail space has been converted into apartments, the food court is being repurposed as an office space for GRAEF-USA Incorporated, and a new food hall will be available as the ‘3rd Street Market Hall.
I think this is a great way to repurpose such a large space, and it could be incredibly beneficial to do something like this with more abandoned malls across the U.S.
