University Medical Center is the “Gold Standard” in Laboratory Excellence
University Medical Center has received a lab certificate accredited by the College of American Pathologists, recognizing them as the "gold standard" in laboratory accreditation and laboratory excellence.
According to a news release, UMC is inspected by the CAP every 2 years. CAP accreditation is a process that utilizes thousands of performance standards and regulations.
Some processes the CAP found especially impressive in the UMC lab are:
- Patient evaluation, ensuring that vitals are monitored on a timely basis for all patients receiving blood transfusions.
- Monitoring Emergency Center turnaround time to ensure providing results in a timely manner.
- Monitoring Blood Culture and Sputum Contamination rates to ensure a quality specimen is collected.
University Medical Center Laboratory Director Marisol Martinez said:
We strive to do our very best for our patients and community. Being accredited by CAP is an affirmation to our UMC Lab Team, our patients and providers that the UMC Lab is providing accurate and first-rate laboratory results for the right patient at the right time.
UMC has 4 different lab locations. The main lab is on the 1st floor of the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, and the others are the UMC Medical Office Plaza I - 4th Floor, UMC KingsPark Lab, and UMC Southwest Medical.
