Today is one of those days that you just don't want to go outside. One of those days where you expect to see Auntie Em circling outside, and cows flying by like in every tornado movie ever made. In other words, its Spring in Lubbock.

The West Texas wind is so well known that I found at least 6, yes 6, different songs with just the title West Texas Wind. So what do you do to survive it? Not much, but I have a few tips to help you get through.

1. Don't wear a skirt or dress, or any clothes at all! This goes for guys and girls. Don't wear anything long and flowing, especially skirts. They will blow up and over giving the world around you a show.

2. Tape your clothes to yourself. Just like not wearing a skirt, you should probably go ahead and tape anything that might be loose down directly to your skin. The wind here can and will find and exploit any weakness it finds in your outfit and turn you into a parachute being blown away, always in the opposite direction of wherever you wanted to go.

3. Don't smile. Just don't do it. You brush your teeth to keep dirt out of it. Smiling on a day like today is making sure that your teeth will NEVER be clean again. There isn't a floss produced that can get all the tiny dust out of your mouth. And trying to rinse it out when you get inside with some water is just going to aggravate you.

4. Don't breathe. See above about smiling, but think about your lungs.

5. Don't go outside, or anywhere. Just stay inside because you're going to be jamming towels into all your window and door cracks to keep it out of your house anyway. Which in and of itself is futile, you can't stop it.

Essentially just stay in bed under the covers all day because you can't fight it. You can't really survive it. You can only try to make it through to summer's killer heat, which we will discuss in a later post.
