When the Pac 12 announced last week that they would be moving to a conference-only schedule, the Red Raiders lost a home game against Arizona. On Monday (July 20th), the SWAC moved their fall football season to the spring, effectively canceling another Texas Tech home game against Alabama State.

If the Texas Tech football schedule stands as is there will be no non-conference football at Jones AT&T Stadium. The third and final non-conference game on the schedule is UTEP.

As far as the SWAC and Alabama State go, according to a statement put out by the conference, their fall sports will be played in the spring. The football teams will play a seven-game schedule with an eight-week training period beginning in January. The seven games will be comprised of six conference games, and potentially one non-conference game.

The six-game conference slate will culminate in the Cricket Wireless SWAC Football Championship game.

The statement said the move was "necessary out of growing concern for the health, safety and well-being both mentally and physically of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, team staff, campus faculty, fans and supporters."

The Big 12, ACC and SEC all lost more games today with the cancelation of SWAC games from their schedules. The week two cancellation also offers a chance to try and get another home game. Memphis, Houston and Tulane all had opponents cancel on them and are available.

It doesn't seem like a deal can be struck to bring one of theses schools to Lubbock on short notice, but if you promised a future visit to their stadium it might work. Houston and Texas Tech just finished a home-and-home where the Red Raiders won in Houston and Lubbock. Could that be the easiest match due to familiarity?

If I was going to make a bet with you about the Red Raiders playing all three non-conference games at this point, I'd take the action that it won't happen. It's all up to UTEP on if the Red Raiders play any non-conference games now.
