Red Raiders Lose Key Contributor to Season-Ending Injury
Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells said in his media availability Wednesday afternoon (November 18th) that wide receiver KeSean Carter would be out for the remainder of the season after having surgery for a broken collarbone suffered near the end of the Baylor game.
Carter was huge early this year with 21 catches and four touchdowns through the first three games of the season, including a seven-catch, 77-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Texas Longhorns. Carter would hurt his elbow against Kansas State, then miss the Iowa State and West Virginia games and struggle to get involved against Oklahoma and TCU.
Carter broke out again against the Baylor Bears this weekend, catching seven balls for 64 yards with the last one costing him the rest of the season.
Wells also said that Nick McCann, who hasn't played the last four weeks, has opted out of the program. Wells didn't expand on the reasons McCann left, just that he's no longer on the team.
This week is a bye week for the Red Raiders, but Matt Wells said if there were a game this weekend that Alan Bowman would take the first series because of his fourth-quarter against Baylor. Wells clarified that both quarterbacks were splitting reps 50/50 with the starters, and recent starting QB Henry Colombi would still play.
With that revelation from Wells, Bowman is likely the starter in Stillwater when the Red Raiders next take the field. If Bowman leads five straight scoring drives, I assume he'll remain on the field. If Bowman struggles, Colombi will retake the field. If they both struggle, maybe it is finally time for the debut of Maverick McIvor.
