Talk about names that match the face! Baby is clearly a baby that's looking for her perfect permanent home. Those sweet eyes and floppy ears make my heart burst with joy.

Unfortunately, Baby seems to be suffering from "black dog" syndrome. People tend to overlook black dogs without even realizing it when they visit the shelter. That's why it's important to give these animals some individualized attention. Baby has been in the shelter too long, so it's time she gets her proper amount of attention.

From the Lubbock Animal Shelter and Adoption Center (3323 SE Loop 289):

Baby is a black female Pit Bull who has been with us for 106 days. She is our longest stay. She was an owner surrender, and very sweet. She is up to date on all her shots, fixed, and microchipped. She is ready for her fur-ever home.

I think animals with black coats are quite stunning and regal. I have a solid black cat that I really adore, although it's easy to lose him in the dark. I've almost sat on him a couple of times. Luckily, Baby is bigger than a cat, so this shouldn't be an issue for her. I'm sure she'll forgive you if you do, though.

You can visit with Baby and even take her out on a date to see if she's the one. LAS is full of deserving and lovely animals and I'm sure that if you are looking to add a pet to your family, the perfect animal is waiting for you there. Just be mindful of the black animals and don't overlook them on accident.

The Lubbock Animal Shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
