The Lubbock Police Department has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed in a tragic accident Sunday night, November 15th 2020.

Lubbock police and first responders received the call Sunday night at 9 p.m. and responded to the scene of the accident. According to a police report, a 2008 Chevy pickup was traveling east on 98th Street when it struck a pedestrian who was walking along the side of 98th Street near the intersection with County Road 2450.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as 31-year-old Paul Quesada of Lubbock. The driver of the pickup was also identified as 54-year-old Melissa Brown of Lubbock. She was reported to be wearing a seatbelt and did not suffer any injuries.

The Lubbock Police Department has not determined who might be at fault for the accident that killed Quesada. One article about pedestrian accidents suggested that a majority of pedestrian accidents occur due to distracted driving and failing to give the right-of-way to pedestrians.

The Texas Department of Transportation reports that in 2019, more than 656 pedestrians and 68 pedalcyclists were killed in traffic accidents in the state. In 2019, TxDOT also reported that in Lubbock County, there were over 7,231 car accidents and at least 62 people were killed.
