Lubbock’s Overgrown Weeds Take Over Buddy Holly Hall
Lubbock's overgrown foliage continues to be a problem around town.
I was leaving the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center this Saturday, September 4, when I realized I could barely see the sign outside of the Buddy Holly Hall. The grass and weeds around the sign seemed to be so overgrown that they were consuming the letters and leaving it mostly unreadable.
It isn't a new phenomenon to see unkempt landscaping around Lubbock. It was just recently that FMX 94.5 seemed to shame the city into trimming the grass along some of the roads.
It's a little more understandable to me to have long grass and weeds next to the roads, but right in front of the Buddy Holly Hall? The landscaping has somehow gone so long without maintenance that you can't even see most of the building's sign. It's really not a good look.
Especially since events have been going on with it looking like that. This is one of Lubbock newest additions that just opened this year. It was a multimillion-dollar project that resulted in an absolutely beautiful building that Lubbock should be proud of. I might just be picky, but I think the facility should have better upkeep than this.
Buddy Holly inspired musicians all around the world, and this performing arts center is supposed to show respect and honor his legacy. However, I don't think that allowing weeds to grow so tall that they shadow his name is honorable at all.
