Spotlight On Buddy Holly Summer Showcase Performer Anthony Garcia
Summer isn't over yet, and that means that the Buddy Holly Summer Showcase is still in full swing. This week the very talented Anthony Garcia will be showing off his talented vocal skills in Lubbock.
Garcia's voice is definitely not what I was expecting when I first saw him on YouTube. The experience felt like my mind had just solved a Rubik's Cube.
Garcia is originally from Lubbock but now lives in the heart of Texas, Austin. His online biography says his music style is "cinematic Americana" or versatility. Now it's very easy to understand what that means when Garcia is known to change instruments live on stage between and even during songs. Garcia does tour around Texas and even Europe. He was also an English teacher in South Korea, which provided him the opportunity to perform in Southeast Asia.
Garcia's sound was once said by a French publication to be "hypnotic," which rings true to me. The sounds just drew me in like an old bar in a border town and let me stay comfortably with a beer in one hand while arm wrestling with a saguaro cactus. There certainly is a specific feel to Garcia's music. It speaks to Texas nostalgia -- a time before worry, of great television, and a unique balance of Texas and Mexico blending together to form a entrancing experience.
The Buddy Holly Summer Showcase will be at the Meadows Courtyard at the Buddy Holly Center Thursday, July 14th, 2022 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public. Outside food and beverages, chairs, picnic blankets and pets are now allowed.
