Lubbock ISD Superintendent Kathy Rollo issued a statement to families late Thursday afternoon after Governor Greg Abbott closed schools until April 3rd.

"I know that you're experiencing a multitude of anxieties right now about COVID-19 and the disruption to your family's normal routines," Rollo said. "I want to assure you that we will continue working to serve the needs of our students and staff during this time of uncertainty."

As of Thursday, March 19th, three cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Lubbock County.

The district will be emailing parents about on Friday, March 20th to explain its remote instruction curriculum, which starts on Monday, March 30th. Students in grades 2 through 12 were proactively provided Chromebooks by the district prior to the start of Spring Break  The email will also outline the district's food services program, which goes into effect March 23rd.

"Aramark, our food service provider, will serve breakfast and lunch in a drive-through format on 16 campuses from noon to 1:30 each weekday. We’ll expand food distribution to a delivery service using school buses beginning the week of March 30th," Rollo explained.

Prior to Gov. Abbott's action, Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD and Lubbock-Cooper ISD extended Spring Break for students by one week and provided parents the option to keep their children home for the rest of the school year provided they adhere to remote instruction guidelines.

Rollo asked parents to check Lubbock ISD's website for more information about COVID-19 and for future updates.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to provide some sense of normalcy for our students, families, and staff during these uncertain times," Rollo concluded.
