Preseason Poll Has Texas Tech Football Fourth In The Big 12

Expectations are growing in Lubbock for the Texas Tech Football program. Last season, Texas Tech surprised many when they finished with an 8-5 record and with a win in the Texas Bowl over Ole Miss.

In Head Coach Joey McGuire's second season, the Red Raiders are expected to take another step forward. The Big 12 preseason poll of media members has Texas Tech finishing the season fourth overall in the Big 12.

According to a press release from Texas Tech Athletics, that is the highest nod Tech has gotten in years.

The preseason nod is the highest Texas Tech has been slotted by the media prior to a season since the Big 12 moved to a division-less format in 2011. Texas Tech received four first-place votes from the media, finishing fourth with 729 points behind only league favorite Texas (886 points), Kansas State (858 points) and Oklahoma (758 points).

This year will be the final year for both Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 while the conference welcomes four new members this season, BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, and UCF. Below is the full preseason poll that was released on Thursday.

With new teams coming in and old teams on their way out, it is sure to be an interesting season with expectations growing in Lubbock.
