No City of Lubbock Pools Will Be Open This Summer, Splash Pads Arrive Soon
Get ready for the summer of splash pads in the City of Lubbock. On Tuesday, the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department announced that all City pools in Lubbock will remain closed this Summer. That includes Clapp Parker which closed during the summer last year.
After the Clapp Park Pool was closed last summer due to safety concerns, the City of Lubbock had companies go out to the park to diagnose the problem. It turns out that the problem is larger than they thought. According to a press release from the City of Lubbock, the current water balance tank is in disrepair and it has been recommended that the current "sump pit tank be converted into the new water balance tank" and that a new surge tank be constructed. The City would also need to relocate the pumps, chemical feeders, electrical, and other plumbing. The timeline for repairs is 4-6 months at a cost of $325,000.
So that means the pool at Clapp Park will remain closed for the summer and that Lubbock will not have a city owned pool open in the Summer of 2024. However, splash pads will be coming to Lubbock this summer according to the City of Lubbock.

In the same press release, the City of Lubbock announced that splash pads are set to open in Lubbock during the Summer of 2024. No exact date was given, but they are expected to open.
Splash pads are the future direction for the City of Lubbock as the city moves away from municipal pools.
The move towards splash pads does present a question for the Lubbock City Council. Invest money in a pool, or move towards only having splash pads?
