If you're in Lubbock long enough you'll hear a slew of people complaining about how there is 'nothing to do here' or that it's such a 'boring place to live.'

I want to challenge all those people with a simple question: Is Lubbock really that boring, or are you the boring one?

I’ve been living in Lubbock for around five years now and have really enjoyed my time here. I came from a larger city that definitely wasn’t considered boring and had plenty of stuff to do, but I liked the small-town feel Lubbock has while still being a fairly large city for the area. While there aren’t as many forms of entertainment in Lubbock as there are in larger cities, like zoos, amusement parks and museums, that doesn’t mean that there isn't anything to do here.

The people that complain about not having stuff to do are the people that only care about quick and easy entertainment. While Lubbock does have those things, like Main Event, 4ORE! Golf and Adventure Park (which are all great) and, sometime in the future, a Dave & Buster's, there are many other fun things to do in Lubbock that aren’t as obvious. Lubbock is full of events that are easy to find once you learn the right places to look for them.

Word of mouth is a huge thing in this city, so you might miss out on some events if you don’t ask those around you what’s going on. This city is also huge on using Facebook, so I highly suggest getting on there and looking at events in the area, because there is always something going on. You can also visit the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce website to find events in the area.. Whether you want to learn to dance, look at art, or check out some wineries, there are so many opportunities out there. All you have to do it look.

Even if you aren't a fan of going to events, there are other ways to keep yourself entertained. Lubbock is constantly seeing new restaurants, drink stops and other unique businesses open their doors. You just have to get up, get in your car and drive around and you're bound to find a new spot you haven't tried before.

I understand that things might feel stale if you're used to attending the same events or going to the same restaurants all the time, but what's stopping you from starting your own group or trying out something new? There are so many great resources out there to help you find out what’s going on in Lubbock. A great example is Lubbock in the Loop.

The longer I'm in Lubbock, the more it feels like all the people that complain about the city simply don’t take the time to get out and really see it. Even the biggest and most exciting city is deemed boring to those that don’t put out the effort to go out there and experience what it has to offer.
