City of Lubbock Reveals 2 Locations Where Coronavirus-Infected Person Visited
Original story: During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the City of Lubbock confirmed that a Texas Tech University student who recently returned from Europe has tested positive for COVID-19.
In the same press conference, a third case of coronavirus was confirmed in Lubbock.
The City is urging anyone who visited two specific locations in Lubbock to contact the City of Lubbock Health Department immediately if they develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19:
- Lubbock Preston Smith Airport on March 15th from 8:45 to 9:15 p.m.
- Rosa’s Cafe at 4th street and Quaker Avenue, March 15th from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
On Tuesday, the City confirmed two positive coronavirus cases: one person from Lubbock County, and one person from Hockley County.
Texas Tech President Dr. Lawrence Schovanec would not reveal which country the student was visiting when they contracted the coronavirus. The student tested positive for COVID-19 on March 16th.
Schovanec revealed that students returning from Europe were told to self-isolate for 14 days at a specific facility, and the school arranged transportation to that place. However, the student who has since tested positive for COVID-19 did not comply; they returned home instead.
That family has been legally quarantined to prevent them from traveling.
The Hockley County case had visited Grace Clinic, Covenant Emergency Department and University Medical Center after traveling to a state where there is community transmission of COVID-19. They're currently hospitalized.
Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope has also revised the previously declared public health disaster. Now, public gatherings of more than 50 people are disallowed. On Tuesday, Pope had that number at 200.

Rosa’s Cafe has confirmed that an individual who had previously been exposed to the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, recently visited the Rosa’s Cafe location at 4th and Quaker in Lubbock, Texas. While the restaurant employees and management team at this location had implemented more stringent, companywide regulations and safe-handling practices to deter the spread of the disease prior to the incident, the individual was the last customer to visit and leave the restaurant Sunday evening at 10:00 PM. The table where the person sat was then thoroughly sanitized according to enhanced cleaning procedures. Rosa’s Cafe’s management team has voluntarily closed the restaurant and begun a Level 3 cleaning of the location, and all employees on duty at the time of the customer’s visit are voluntarily being put on self isolation for 14 days and will undergo testing as required by health officials.
The management team of the Rosa’s Cafe is placing customer and employee health as its primary concern and will not reopen the restaurant until it passes all health inspections and is cleared to reopen by the city health department.
