'Canada's Drag Race' Star Ilona Verley to Perform in Lubbock

Thanks to an incredible local drag scene, Lubbock has seen several RuPaul's Drag Race stars perform right here in the 806.

Meeting Detox and Willam Belli were (and still are) my favorite celebrity encounters. They were beautiful, fabulous, stunning and incredibly kind and cool to me. I often tell people, don't meet your favorite musician (they're almost always jerks), but DO meet your favorite drag queen.

This weekend, there will be a first for the Lubbock scene -- a contestant from Canada Drag Race, which was created by RuPaul, will be performing at Club Luxor (2211 Marsha Sharp Freeway). Ilona Verley, "The Lip Sync Assassin," placed in the top 6 of Season 1 of the show. She's also the first indigenous (Nlaka'pamux) and first Two-Spirit contestant on the show.

Verley will perform Saturday night, July 17th, 2021. The entrance fee is $10, which includes a meet and greet with Verley, which, again, I totally encourage you to take advantage of. She'll also be supported by incredible local talent. I cannot emphasize that enough. Lubbock is home to very talented, beautiful and engaging drag performers that are on par with anywhere else in the world.

That being said, it's quite a lot of fun to see a queen who has reached TV celebrity status perform in person. You can get to know Verley a little better in this super-cute video:

Be sure to bring plenty of singles (and 5s, and 10s, and 20s) to tip your talent. All that makeup, clothes, wigs, etc. ain't cheap. Besides, tipping a deserving queen just feels great.

Dressing to impress isn't at all required, but it's a big part of the fun for me, so if you're into it, I recommend doing that as well.
