Facebook Has Crossed the One Billion User Mark
Believe it or not there are still people who just discovered Facebook now in 2012 and thought, "Well this looks interesting! I should sign up!" Yesterday morning, Mark Zuckerburg announced that Facebook has crossed the One Billion User mark. It actually happened on September 14th, but he held off on announcing it until today.
Facebook hit 500 million users in July of 2010, so it took them just over two more years to double that. Google is the only other Internet company that's ever hit the one billion user mark. They crossed the threshold last year. Yahoo is third with about 700 million.
There are approximately 2.5 billion people on the Internet. About 500 million of them are in China, which blocks access to Facebook. ???
The one billion users haven't helped Facebook's stock, mostly because Facebook still hasn't figured out how to properly make money off its giant audience. The stock closed yesterday at $21.55-a-share that's down from the $38 at its IPO.
