The polar vortex and the cold temperatures associated with it have arrived in Lubbock, but that hasn't stopped Lubbock citizens from braving the cold and even snow flurries to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

Lubbock continues to do well at getting the vaccine into the arms of Lubbock citizens. According to the City of Lubbock Health Department, as of Friday morning, nearly 30,000 people had received their first shot.

In addition to the 30,000 who have gotten their first shot, 8,264 citizens have received their 2nd dose of the coronavirus vaccine. After a fourteen day period after the second dose, you are considered vaccinated.

Even after getting vaccinated, CDC officials say we still need to wear masks and socially distance.

According to the City of Lubbock, here's how the vaccine clinics have gone at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

  • December 2020 - 2,086 vaccinations administered to those in Phases 1A and 1B
  • January 2021 - 20,347 vaccinations: 18,007 first doses, 2,340 second doses
  • February 2, 2021 - 2,457 vaccinations: 1,821 first doses; 636 second doses
