City of Lubbock Identifies 5 More Places Where People Could Have Been Exposed to COVID-19

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, in Lubbock has grown. Friday, the City of Lubbock said that five people have now tested positive for it.

The number of locations citizens could have been exposed to the coronavirus has likewise grown.

Earlier this week, it was two places: Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport between 8:45 and 9:15 pm on March 15th, and Rosa's Café (4th and Quaker) from 9:30 to 11 p.m. on March 15th.

Here are the five new places city leaders believe people could have been exposed, albeit at a low risk* of infection:

• Sunset Church of Christ's Graduation Ceremony on March 14th
• Walmart, Frankford and Loop 289, between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on March 16th
• Hobby Lobby, 76th Street, between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on March 16th
• Market Street, 19th and Quaker, between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on March 16th
• Dollar General, 5004 34th Street, between 2 and 3 p.m. on March 16th

The City confirmed Wednesday that a Texas Tech University student who returned home from Europe had tested positive for COVID-19. That student declined to follow the school's self-isolation protocols, instead eating at a Rosa's Cafe location and returning home to their family. The Rosa's Cafe has since been closed for a deep cleaning, and employees are voluntarily self-isolating and being tested.

According to the CDC, symptoms of COVID-19 can consist of:

• Cough
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• New confusion or inability to arouse
• Bluish lips or face

The City of Lubbock is advising everyone to practice social distancing, good hygiene, and not going out any more than is absolutely necessary.

*Low risk: "Being in the same indoor environment (e.g., a classroom, a hospital waiting room) as a person with symptomatic laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 for a prolonged period of time but not meeting the definition of close contact."
