A Lubbock Woman is Arrested for Bizarre Attempted Kidnapping

Lubbock Police have arrested a woman for attempted kidnapping. The bizarre incident occurred Saturday, June 29th, at a convenience store in the 2900 block of 4^th Street.

41 year-old Veronica Teresa Saenz is accused of attempting to take a two-month old baby from his car seat inside a parked car.

According to multiple news outlets, a man was waiting inside his car with his two-month old son secured in the backseat when a stranger, now identified as Saenz, got into the back seat as well.

A police report of the incident states that the man was waiting on his wife inside the convenience store to return to the car and didn't know who Saenz was. When he asked her, she allegedly claimed to be the "first woman president," and then tried to unbuckle the infant from his car seat.

After the man intervened, Saenz exited the car and entered the convenience store as if nothing strange had happened. The man called 911 and when police arrived at the scene, Saenz was still inside at the Slurpee machine.

According to Lubbock Police, when an officer asked her about what happened, Saenz began "talking nonsense and gibberish," but denied taking any drugs or having a history of mental illness.

Saenz has arrested at the scene and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
