2 Men Arrested After Altercation at Organized Protest in Lubbock

Over the weekend, two men were arrested in Lubbock at an organized protest over the recent death of George Floyd.

According to a report from the Lubbock Police Department, on Saturday, May 30th, at about 7 p.m., officers were called to the protest at 19th Street and University Avenue for reports of a man armed with a gun.

The armed individual was later identified as 25-year-old Emmanuel Quinones. In video of the incident, Quinones is seen throwing his gun to the ground in front of a police officer who has a stun gun pointed at him.

Quinones is then tackled by another man, identified as 36-year-old Ezequiel Cantu Valderas. An officer tries to break up the altercation, but falls to the ground and appears to suffer minor injuries.

Both men were arrested at the scene. Valderas is being charged with assault, and Quinones is charged with disorderly conduct with a firearm, but was released from jail on Sunday, May 31st.

It's unclear if Valderas and Quinones knew each other, and police have yet to provided evidence that they were involved with the George Floyd protest in any way. The department is still investigating the incident.
