Lubbock Man Accused of Assaulting Employees + Setting His Sheets on Fire
A Lubbock man was indicted on Tuesday, September 6th after it's said he assaulted 2 people and set his bedsheets on fire.
KAMC News reports that police responded to an apartment complex in the 1600 block of 16th Street at around 9:40 p.m. back on August 14th. Police were told that the suspect, 56-year-old William Billy Jeffrey, had assaulted 2 employees at the complex.
The victims said that they told Jeffrey that he wasn't allowed to stay at the complex any longer since he had allegedly assaulted another resident. After being told this, Jeffrey apparently went back to his apartment and returned with a metal pipe, which he used to strike one of the employees in the arm and head.
At one point, Jeffrey began throwing items out of his bedroom window while an officer tried to talk with him from the outside. According to police, after a bit of time Jeffrey began lighting his bed sheets on fire and had barricaded himself inside the bedroom and bathroom of his apartment. However, police were able to force their way inside and take him into custody after deploying a taser.
While in police custody, Jeffrey alerted officers that he had taken an unknown amount of pills, so he was taken to University Medical Center. Afterwards, he was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains on a $50,000 bond.
