Within the past week, authorities in the Texas Panhandle have seized over 70 pounds of methamphetamine and 435 grams of fentanyl.

The Texas Department of Public Safety executed two traffic stops, one on February 16th, and another on February 19th, both in Oldham County.


On Wednesday, February 16th, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a DPS Trooper pulled over a 2021 Toyota Rav4 on Interstate 40, near Vega.

During the stop, several bags containing various narcotics were found. The trooper confiscated 48 pounds of methamphetamine, five pounds of cocaine, 331 grams of fentanyl, and miscellaneous marijuana and THC products from inside the vehicle.

The driver, 21-year-old Felipe Escalera-Nunez, and passenger, 25-year-old Brian Salinas, were apprehended at the scene and booked into the Oldham County Jail. Both face charges of possession of a controlled substance.

On Saturday, February 19th, a little before 11 a.m., another DPS Trooper stopped a 2021 Jeep Compass traveling on Interstate 40, near Wildorado.

As a result of this traffic stop, the trooper discovered 25 pounds of methamphetamine and 104 grams of fentanyl inside the trunk of the vehicle.

The driver, 30-year-old Kendall Jouett, and passenger, 24-year-old Armani Rose, were taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance. They remain booked in the Oldham County Jail.
