If you think Lubbock is an affordable place to live, you should see the homes in South Texas, specifically the McAllen and Weslaco area that's west of South Padre Island.

The new houses being built in this area have a luxurious feel that you couldn't get for less than $400,000 or $500,000 in Lubbock, but are selling within the $200,000 to $300,000 range. These homes are large, 3-to-4-bedroom houses with gorgeous kitchens, spacious living areas, and stunning master suites.

Of course, the pricing of these homes is highly impacted by the location they’re in and how desirable it is to live there. You could have the most beautiful home, but be missing out on certain conveniences that you only have in a larger city. That’s why homes like these are more expensive in a city like Lubbock, but even more so in a city like Dallas.

However, if you don't mind living away from a large city and enjoy the area, then it can definitely be worth moving to a place like McAllen in order to get more bang for your buck. It could also be a great place to retire for those looking to slow down and settle somewhere that feels like a new place while still being in your home state.
