What Were Those Weird Lights in the Sky Over Midland?

I spend a few days in Midland every now and then, but last night I wish I would have been there.

Tuesday, January 8th, a number of "mysterious" lights started appearing in the skies over Midland. And then, the conspiracy theories started.

"It's Aliens!"

"It's rockets from the Midland Spaceport!" (Yes, they have a spaceport in Midland.)

"It's the government!"

It was none of those things. Rather, it was gas flare reflections due to an atmospheric condition known as thermal inversion.

TL; DR: Temps get colder the higher you go in the atmosphere.

So, no aliens, no rockets and not the government. But it was still cool to see this.
