What Led to the Officer-Involved Shooting Wednesday Night in Lubbock?
More details have been released concerning an officer-involved shooting that happened the night of Wednesday, June 1st.
Lubbock Police received a call in regards to a family member who said that their son was "at risk of hurting others." This was a bit after 7 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene just 5 minutes later and located the man in question, Phillip Torres. They then received a call concerning a theft at Knife Guys, a knife store located at 6620 Milwaukee Avenue in Lubbock. Apparently, Torres had stolen multiple items from the store.
Officers began a pursuit with Torres. It led officers across the city but eventually ended in the 2100 block of 67th Street.
KAMC News reports that the suspect approached officers with a machete in hand, so he was shot at by 4 officers. Torres was transported to University Medical Center and later booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for Aggravated Robbery. His bond was set at $400,000.
