What Is the Song ‘Closing Time’ Really About?

You probably know the song "Closing Time" by Semisonic. You may love the song, or you may call it an annoying piece of pop music better left to the history books. You might think you know what it's all about. Turns out you're wrong.

It's a clever little ditty about an experience most people over the age of 21 have experienced: getting to last call at the bar, finishing up your adult beverage of choice and hoping that girl or guy you've been making small talk with all night asks you to accompany them in the continuance of the evening. Or you may end up going home alone.

...Or so thought most people who've heard the lyrics. But the story behind the song isn't that at all.
