Things That Drive Boleo Crazy – Suggestive Selling
I know that certain jobs are full of things you would rather not have to do, but if you don't do them, you could lose your job.
But some places take what employees need to say and do way too far!
One quality example, Upselling/Suggestive Selling. Upselling is defined by Business Dictionary as:
A sales strategy where the seller will provide opportunities to purchase related products or services, often for the sole purpose of making a larger sale. A popular example of upselling happens when a fast-food customer orders a hamburger, and they are asked by their cashier "Do you want fries with that?", in an attempt to get them to purchase more food. Other examples of products that are upsold are warranties on electronics purchases, and the purchase of a carwash after you purchased gas at the gas station.
There is a local fast food outlet that I love to death, but they take suggestive selling and upselling way too far.
FOOD PLACE: Good morning would you like to buy one of our refillable mugs?
BOLEO: No thanks, I need XYZ
FP: Would you like extra cheese on that?
B: No thanks (By this point I am annoyed, but only slightly.)
FP: Would you like to try one of our brownies today?
B: *SIGH* No thank you...
By the third time you have asked me if I want to try something else, I am not even sure I want what I ordered.
I know that these folks are told to do it, but managers and corporate people, come on now. You don't like to be annoyed anymore than I do. Why not make it one suggestive sell item instead of three. I promise you if I want extra cheese, I will ask for it.
And don't even get me started on store credit card solicitations, but I will save that for another day!
