Texas Tech Makes West Virginia Call Their Mountain Mama
Texas Tech football has found their quarterback of the future, if there was any doubt after the Oklahoma State debut for Behren Morton. Against a lackluster West Virginia secondary, Morton shined throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns on route to a 48-10 smashing of the Mountaineers.
As good as the Texas Tech offense was, the defense was even better. The Red Raiders held West Virginia to just three first half points taking a 17-3 lead into the lockerroom after a late interception to end the first half. In the second half, the Mountaineers had seven drives. Those resulted in a interception, then a punt followed by a touchdown. The final four of the half were a fumble, another interception and then two more punts.
West Virginia managed 209 passing yards and just 73 on the ground.
A dominating performance.
Texas Tech's offense was the opposite. The Red Raiders had 11 drives and eight of those led to points. Tahj Brooks got the scoring started with a touchdown on the first two drives to make the game 14-0. A Trey Wolff field goal made it 17-3.
The second half offense opened with a great throw from Behren Morton to Xavier White who made an incredible cut to get the final 30 yards of a 55-yard touchdown. Morton would then find Loic Fouonji to in the endzone on the following drive to cap off a 12 play 91 yard drive.
SaRodorick Thompson would get a rushing touchdown of his own to get the score to 41-10.
Donovan Smith would then finish the game by throwing the final touchdown of the game to Brady Boyd.
Brooks finished with 107 yards and two touchdowns while his partner Thompson finished with 59 and a score of his own. The pair did it on 32 total carries. The offensive line created the space for the running game and also protected Morton, only giving up one sack on more than 50 called passing plays.
The real difference in the game was Texas Tech playing a clean effort with zero turnovers and forcing four from the Mountaineers by getting three interceptions and a forced fumble.
With the win, Texas Tech remains undefeated at home with huge matchup looming with the Baylor Bears next Saturday.
