Texas Tech will honor the memory of legendary head coach Spike Dykes this season with a special helmet sticker that will be on every helmet during all 12 games of the 2017 campaign.

The helmet sticker features an image of Dykes being showered by water following a win and the wording “I Like Spike,” a popular saying among Tech fans during his tenure as head coach from 1986- 1999. Dykes passed away this past April at the age of 79.

Dykes remains the longest tenured head coach in school history as he went 82-67-1 overall over his 13 seasons leading his hometown school. He led the Red Raiders to six bowl appearances after he took over as head coach just weeks prior to the 1986 Independence Bowl.
