Texas JUCO Pitcher Forgets What Sport He’s Playing After Giving Up Bomb
In the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon between Weatherford JC and NCTC, absolutely all hell broke loose.
After NCTC's Josh Phillips hit a home run in the top of the 6th inning to take a lead, Weatherford's pitcher thought he was playing football for a second as the runner was rounding third. A perfect form tackle sent Phillips' helmet flying in a spectacular display.
It's hard to discern too much information from the play-by-play voice who sees the action, has been following the game, knows what's going on, but can only muster, "Oh, oh my. Oh no. That was out of nowhere." The man on the call sounds absolutely sick that this has happened and cannot recover to give any kind of information as to why this pitcher might be upset, other than the tank shot he'd just given up.
My favorite part of the scene is how the batter who hit the home run got up after being tackled by Brian Urlacher and went and hit home plate anyways. I'm pretty sure you got the run due to interference, but good on you for completing the play.
A little odd that the pitcher's teammates didn't join in on the scuffle, but I honestly think they were as baffled as the play-by-play guy was on what had just happened. If a pitcher hits a runner like a linebacker in front of the opposing dugout, the pitcher deserves everything he's got coming to him.
