A Lubbock man who is accused of stabbing and killing 36-year-old Jason Miranda back on Friday, July 2nd, says that Miranda beat him before the stabbing occurred.

It all happened at the Bentwood Apartments in the 3200 block of West Loop 289 at roughly 9:13 p.m. Police initially responded to reports of a domestic disturbance, and on arrival, located 33-year-old Derek Kimbrough, covered in blood, and Miranda with a life-threatening stab wound. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

LPD found the living room floor and furniture to be covered in blood. Officers asked Kimbrough what happened, and after being treating on the scene when he said his head hurt, he admitted to stabbing Miranda, going on to tell the story of what happened beforehand.

Kimbrough told police that he took a "relentless beating" from Miranda, but wasn't able to remember anything else before requesting an attorney. Kimbrough was noted to not have sustained any marks, abrasions, or bruising that would indicate an assault. KAMC News reports that Miranda's hands also didn't have any abrasions, cuts or bruising that would've been indicative of the beating that Kimbrough claimed to have received.

Kimbrough remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a murder charge and a $500,000 bond.
