Natalie Maines' return to Lubbock to be inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame was a family affair. Not only was her father and fellow inductee Lloyd Maines on-hand for the event, but the Dixie Chicks singer said it was her family that helped seal the deal on her coming back to the Hub City for the induction ceremony.

Asked about returning to Lubbock following The Incident, Maines was forthright and direct -- a trait which has helped earn her scores of loyal fans.

"Well, I've been back to Lubbock since the backlash, but...for this, well, mainly because I love my dad. He's a great guy, and this is important to him, but it's important to me, too," Maines told Lonestar 99.5 FM. "It's special to be on that wall of fame with my uncles and my dad because they were definitely my biggest musical inspiration since I was tiny, tiny."

Maines also credited fellow 2015 West Texas Walk of Fame inductee Jo Harvey Allen's husband Terry for being the first person to let her sing professionally on a record.

When asked about her proclivity to speak her mind even if it gets her into trouble, Maines said it was just a part of who she is.

"I only know how to be me. I'm really bad at faking it or saying the right thing so I just say whatever I feel," Maines said.
