It all began when a crime suppression officer recognized a white pickup truck on Wednesday, October 16th that was related to an ATM theft.

The officer located the vehicle near the intersection of 42nd Street and Avenue P at around 2:15 p.m. The officer called for backup, but the suspects fled once they recognized that they were being followed.

The suspects managed to distance themselves from officers and continued west on 38th Street. As officers approached University Avenue, they noticed the suspect's truck had collided with a pickup truck that was traveling north on University and that the suspects were fleeing on foot.

32-year-old mark Melendez and 33-year-old Amy Martinez were apprehended shortly after.

Melendez was arrested and charged with Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence, Evasion in a Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Failure to Render Aid, Forgery and an Outstanding Felony Warrant.

Martinez was arrested and charged with Evasion in a Vehicle and Evasion of Arrest/Detention.

The driver of the pickup truck the suspects collided with was transported to Covenant Medical Center with minor injuries.
