Madonna sat down with SiriusXM DJ Larry Flick to discuss ‘MDNA’ back to front. She went deep with Flick, speaking about how she thinks her image as a control freak is a misconception; about having her teenage daughter Lourdes appear on a song and what the 15-year-old’s role will be on the road; and what inspired the controversial ‘I Don’t Give A,’ which many thought was a lyrical shot at her ex, Guy Ritchie.

But the most genuine thing Madge said? “I think I still have a lot to say. I still get pissed off about things, and I still believe in love.” She’s not a bitter, jaded and cynical pop star and we’re happy about that.

So, first, about that issue of control? “I hate to use the word ‘control’ so much, because people bandy that word about with me, when it comes to my creative life. Everyone [says] ‘Oh, you’re a control freak and you like to be in control.’ The thing is, everything I do — even my songwriting — I’m collaborating at all times, and I value input from people, and I want it. I can’t work on my own,” she said.

That’s a big admission for her to make, that she likes and needs collaborators, insisting, “I am not Prince or like a lot of artists who can go in and play every instrument and record a track and not hear from people. I need to hear what people think all the time. But I like to have my road dog, my sidekick … It’s a clear delineation of who my collaborator is.”

Now that she’s made the idea of a professional collaborator clear, what about a personal one? Her marriage to director Ritchie, father of her son Rocco, disintegrated publicly. In ‘I Don’t Give A,’ she pointedly sings: “I tried to be a good girl / I tried to be your wife / Diminished myself / And it swallowed my light / I tried to become all / That you expect of me/ And if it was a failure/ I don’t give a …”

But it’s not about her ex. She admitted she read a book called ‘She’ about how women give themselves up in marriage. She said, “The nature of falling in love is that to a certain extent you have to compromise … I talked about this a lot when I was promoting my film ['W.E.']. A part of you has to go, a part of you has to die, in a way.”

She continued, “It’s an incredible amount of power to give someone and I think it’s a valid sacrifice to make, but you just have to make sure you’re making it with the right person.” Well, if art is imitating life, then Ritchie wasn’t the right one.

The Material Girl’s firstborn Lourdes also lends her voice to ‘Superstar.’ Of course, Madonna thinks her offspring has “an incredible voice” but “[Lourdes] has never admit it herself. She’s like ‘Mom, just take my name off the record, I don’t want to be on it.’ I said, ‘Too late!’” Clearly, Madge is the boss.

She confirmed that Lourdes will hit the road with her, but it’s not going to be all fun and games. “I have to keep my eye on her. She’s 15,” Madonna said. God, we love Madge in mom mode and we’re sure that Lourdes is just as headstrong as she once was.

She continued, “But she hasn’t decided what she wants to do yet. This is how we roll. This is how a Libra rolls anyway — they can never make up their minds. She plays the piano beautifully. She’s an incredible singer. But she’s going through that ‘I don’t want anyone to notice me phase,’ so she might be doing hair and makeup or dressing people in the wardrobe department.”

That’s all well and good, since her Leo mom will be just a stone’s throw away.
