Lubbock Decorates Almost Everything For Christmas
The Christmas season officially kicks off for me every year when I see cars decorated.
Since Thanksgiving I've been keeping my eyes out for the first sight of reindeer antlers, wreaths, or a Rudolph nose on a car. Today was a triple score!
Seeing cars decorated and also checkers and employees at local grocery stores and retailers, with Christmas headbands featuring aforementioned reindeer antlers or Christmas lights or Santa hats, bring me a lot of joy. And I don't think I'm the only one. I usually try to find the craziest Christmas hat I can find and wear it to family functions, because not only do the kids love it, I think the adults get a kick out of it.
I have worked retail during the holidays and I will tell you from experience, that it can absolutely suck your will to live. The fact that employees of retail stores or grocery stores take the time to bring Christmas joy or a smile to their patrons, gets me every year. It's such a sweet gesture, amidst all the hub bub and stress.
All of these gestures bring home the fact that we are supposed to be celebrating this time of year and not get so bogged down and serious. No matter what our socioeconomic group, gender or age, we all should be able to enjoy this season and the meaning of Christmas.
