Let's face it: Lubbock has a serious dog overpopulation problem. It absolutely shatters my heart to pieces knowing that deserving, loving, healthy dogs are euthanized for no other reason than the fact that there are simply too many of them.

My dog happens to be a rescue, and she is absolutely perfect for me. Amok April Donuts Wrongbottom improves every day of my life and I returned the favor to her and to all dog kind by getting her fixed, her shots and microchipped.

But I get it, I totally do, vetting your dogs can get quite expensive. Things come up (like Summer time LP&Ll bills) and it's easy to push it off.

Luckily our animal shelter wants to help save animals- by preventing overpopulation in the first place. During the month of August they are giving out a limited number of free spay/neuter certificates. You must live within the city limits and your dog must have a rabies shot and be microchipped (they will microchip your dog for $5 if they need it, which is total bargain). Stop by the Adoption Center (3323 SE Loop 289) with proof you live in Lubbock and your dogs current rabies tag. For more information call 775-2057. These are while supplies last.
