Well-known club and gig musician Mike Pritchard died this week in Lubbock. He had performed in the Hub City in both solo and group acts for over 20 years.

I remember seeing Pritchard a few different times at places like Cricket's and Cafe J.

He was a very good musician. If you were at a restaurant that had him listed as the performer for the night, you knew you were going to get a good show.

Jill Kerns and her husband Bill, who used to write for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, posted on Facebook about Pritchard's passing: "It is with great sadness that Bill and I inform you about the death of our sweet friend and musician extraordinaire, Mike Pritchard today. Our hearts are hurting. Our prayers go out to his wife Tiffny (sic), his children and his grandchildren and all of his family as they begin to deal with this sudden loss. Mike had the biggest heart and there isn’t anyone that didn’t recognize that voice. Over numerous years you would hear him solo, with his groups, or playing with friends. I always smiled when I saw his name come up on a music listing. And today I cried when I saw his upcoming performances that won’t take place on this earth. The heavens gained a special angel today."

Pritchard's cause of death has not yet been reported, and funeral arrangements are pending.
