A Claw Machine Arcade Is Bringing Something New to Odessa

A new, family-friendly entertainment concept is quietly making its way to Odessa, bringing a unique arcade experience rarely seen in the Permian Basin.

Jun Hu, a longtime local business owner, recently opened a claw machine-focused entertainment space just across the way from Volcano, the restaurant he and his brother-in-law have operated for more than a decade on East 42nd Street.

They dubbed the new spot "Rig-Claw".

Bringing Something New to Odessa

After spending years in the area, Hu noticed something missing from Odessa’s growing restaurant and retail scene, a dedicated entertainment spaces for kids and families.

While places like trampoline parks and movie theaters have helped fill that gap, Hu wanted to introduce something different, an environment built entirely around arcade fun, prizes, and a high-energy atmosphere.

The new space brings together a large collection of claw machines, arcade games, and carnival-style attractions under one roof.

While some of the machines will feel familiar to players, according to Hu, many are unique variations not currently available anywhere else in Odessa.

Acquiring the Machines and Shipping to Odessa

To source the machines, Hu and his team traveled directly to Guangzhou, China, a global hub for arcade manufacturing.

After reviewing factories, checking references in the U.S., and visiting a showroom in Colorado, they selected machines based on quality, reliability, and variety. The equipment was then shipped to Odessa by container.

Is Rig-Claw Open For Business?

The business has recently received city approval and is now in a soft opening phase, allowing the team to work through logistics and fine-tune operations before announcing a full grand opening.

Hu says this approach helps ensure a smoother experience once promotional events and higher foot traffic begin.

In the future, the space may expand to include café-style seating, specialty drinks, and imported snacks, adding a social element to the arcade experience.
