In just a few short years, Scout Aviation Helicopters has become one of the Permian Basin’s most unique aviation experiences.

Owned and operated by Marine Corps veteran and chief pilot Sammy Medina, the Odessa-based operation officially launched in 2020 and has since grown into a full-time flight school and commercial helicopter service serving Midland and Odessa year-round.

Learning to Fly in Midland-Odessa

Scout Aviation focuses on its one-on-one flight school offering flexibility and personalized instruction, providing three key certifications: Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).

Students can start with a discovery flight, an introductory 30-minute experience where they take control of the helicopter on their very first flight!

The path from beginner to professional is fully supported in-house. After earning a commercial license, future pilots can continue training toward their CFI credentials.

The school caters to everyone from casual enthusiasts to those pursuing long-term careers in helicopter aviation.

Beyond flight training, Scout Aviation provides a wide range of helicopter services, including predator control (hog and coyote mitigation for landowners), ranch work, gender reveals, wedding arrivals, shooting courses, sunset flights, and aerial tours.
