Temple College Goes High-tech With New AI Lab Funding
Temple, Texas, may not be Silicon Valley, but thanks to a $100,000 grant from Meta, it is about to feel a lot more like it. Temple College is opening a one-of-a-kind “Meta AI Computer Lab” inside its brand-new Workforce and Visual Arts building, and the high-tech possibilities are huge.
A Lab Straight Out of the Future
Walking into this lab will be like stepping into the future. We are talking 21 high-performance Alienware computers that look like they belong in a science fiction movie. Each one ready to teach students how to use Artificial Intelligence in the real world, and this isn’t just about staring at a screen. The lab includes autonomous robots, AI-enabled drones, sensors, and cameras. Students will be working with the same kind of tech driving the next wave of manufacturing.
A Game Changer for Students and the Community
Temple College’s Vice President of Workforce Development, DeDe Griffith, couldn’t hide her excitement, calling the new facility “a game changer” for the community. She says it will give students, especially those just starting out in their careers, a chance to train on technology that is shaping the future of the workforce.
The First Project: A High-Tech Candy Dispenser
Even better, the lab’s first project will be something fun and relatable. Jeff Kondel of ROOTS Education Company revealed that the college president requested the students build a candy dispenser. This won’t be just any candy dish. Kondel joked it will probably be the “most expensive and heaviest candy dish in the world.”
For a city the size of Temple, having a resource like this is more than just a school upgrade. It’s a statement. It says that innovation doesn’t have to be limited to tech hubs and big cities. The ribbon cutting for Temple College’s new building happens at 11:30 a.m. today, August 15th, and for Temple, the future is officially here.
