In Lubbock, we all know about the major accidents that happen around the city. But there is one road in Lubbock County that is the most dangerous and deadliest road in our area. And you may be surprised to learn which road it is.
According to a report from KAMC and the Texas fatal accident study, US-84 is known as the deadliest road in Lubbock County.
While Loop 239 and the Marsha Sharp Freeway have had their share of accidents, it appears as though the most fatalities happen on the US-84 which runs from basically Shallowater to Slaton in Lubbock County.
According to the study, speeding accounted for 31% of deadly crashes while drunk driving accounted for 24%. According to KAMC, in Lubbock County there were 120 fatal crashes between 2018 and 2020 with 39 of those crashes involving dunk driving.
Many, if not most, of these fatal accidents could have been prevented. There is no excuse to drive drunk. With the proliferation of ride-hailing services and even Citibus, there is always transportation nearby. If one of those fail, call a friend to pick you up.
Make smart choices and be good drivers. That way everyone can make it home.
