
Texas Teacher Arrested, Accused of Having Drugs and Gun on School Campus
A Texas educator is facing charges of having marijuana and a firearm on campus. The teacher was arrested and has been placed on leave according to reports.

Broderick Omar Hopkins, a 47-year-old teacher in Athens ISD was arrested earlier this week and booked into the Henderson County Jail. He faces charges of possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful carrying of a weapon. His bonds totaled $15,000 and was released the same day.

According to WFAA in Dallas, an Athens Police Officer was notified that Hopkins may have had marijuana on him.
An Athens police officer was notified by the school district that a staff member, who was later identified as Hopkins, possibly had marijuana on his person and then placed into his vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.
During a meeting at Athens Central Elementary, the police officer was given a pill bottle that had four unknown pills inside. When the officer opened it, he said the smell of marijuana was coming out of the bottle, the document explained.
When officers went to search the teacher's truck, Hopkins attempted to drive away. Police entered the vehicle and reportedly smelt marijuana and found a loaded firearm in a backpack.
Hopkins has been put on administrative leave during the investigation.
