Here’s a Look at the Sky High Price of Food Inside Lubbock’s Preston Smith Airport
The next time you are flying out of Lubbock's Preston Smith Airport, be prepared to open your wallet wide if you want to hit up the Food Court.***
Last week was the first time I've flown out of Lubbock in about two years. While overall, I enjoy the airport in Lubbock when flying out of town, I was shocked by the Food Court and the choices that are there.
It has been a tradition for us to grab Burger King before flying out. Well, I found that Burger King is no longer at the airport in Lubbock. Instead, the food court has a deli and a grille along with a "quick market" grab-and go-type of place.
And the prices at the grille? Not cheap.
A bacon cheese burger served with fries? $16.99
The "Raider Burger" which is a hamburger with shredded pot roast? It's $17.99 and if you want bacon, that is an additional $2.99.
Even chicken tenders will set you back $16.99. And if you want a soda, that will cost you $3.99.
Breakfast prices aren't much better with a burrito costing you over $13.00.
Now look, I get it. Food prices have gone up everywhere. But this seems a little much for airport food that isn't a national brand. I'm not even sure who owns the Hub City Grille. But the sticker shock was real. Instead of grabbing a burger, we just waited until our flight landed in Las Vegas, and we weren't the only ones passing up the burgers in Lubbock. To be fair, they could be great burgers and chicken tenders, we still passed.
By the way, the price for a double Whopper with cheese combo meal at the Las Vegas Airport? Under $16 and that included fries and a drink.
